The Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD) requires Member States across Europe to put in place ‘measures to establish a regular inspection of air conditioning systems of an effective rated output of more than 12 kW’.
Only air conditioning systems with an effective rated output of more than 12kW are affected by these regulations. This will include systems consisting of individual units which are less than 12kW but whose combined effective rated output is more than 12kW. Each report is valid for 5 years.
Approximately 40% of Commercial floor space is expected to be air-conditioned by 2020 compared with only 10% at the end of 1994 and in a typical office the air conditioning system can account for over 30% of annual energy consumption.
As air conditioning uses electricity, which is responsible for higher CO2 emissions than the equivalent amount of fossil fuel energy, its impact on the carbon footprint of a building can be significant.
A TM44 inspection by NRG Focus Ltd aims to summarise all the aspects that would improve the efficiency and performance of all HVAC equipment by reducing energy costs. It incorporates any no-cost or low-cost initiatives and capital investment that may be required to achieve its objective.
The survey covers a range of actions from inspection of the air conditioning systems to the measuring of performance and power of fans and associated cooling electrical load and comparing the results with industry standards to identify energy savings while maintaining the minimum performance requirements.
The inspection’s sole focus is to seek improvements in energy efficiency. This will result in lower energy bills for the occupier and reduced CO2 emissions.
All engineers at NRG Focus Ltd have over 10 years’ experience within Mechanical Services and energy auditing and believe our No-Cost recommendations will significantly reduce CO2emissions and operating costs.
